Solanum elaeagnifolium is native to the Americas including the southwestern USA and Mexico; it occurs in South America (Argentina, Chile, and Uruguay), but perhaps is non-native there; introduced in the Mediterranean, South Africa, India, and Australia; invasive. This species grows in poor soils on semi-desert plains and in disturbed habitats. Annual or perennial forb, 10-100 cm in height; the stem is armed with prickles, pubescent; leaves lanceolate, pubescent, with sinuate margins; flower stellate, with five blue, pale lavender or white petals and yellow stamens; fruit is a berry (yellow, orange, or red). In North America, S. elaeagnifolium flowers from April to August.
